Interesting night at work

I haven’t been updating much lately ‘cuz I’ve been busy working on web stuff. I just finished the most depressing night of work ever, though, and I’m gonna tell you about it.

First some guy comes in and he had gone to the VA and had whatever type of prescription coverage they provide through the VA. I put his RX through the system and it came back rejected because our specific pharmacy doesn’t have a contract with the VA (duh, I knew this but completely forgot!)

So I go tell him it’s rejecting and that he’ll have to go to a pharmacy with the proper contract. He said he didn’t have a car so he would have to walk. That eliminated our other 24 hour store (which has a contract) because it’s several miles away, so I pulled up a list of other participating pharmacies in the area. I asked him where he lived… and he looks down at his prescription and doesn’t say anything. Eventually he muttered, “It’s OK I’ll figure it out.”

Yes, I had just stuck my foot in my mouth and asked a homeless dude where he lives. Classy. At this point I was ready to pay for a cab to take him to our other store but I was never able to get anyone to answer the phone over there so I could confirm that they had a contract. They must’ve been busy getting robbed or something.

Anyway the guy used our bathroom like 4 times and was here for over an hour and then he finally left. I was gonna let him chill over in the massage chair and sleep but he never came back over by the pharmacy.

Cut to an hour later and a lady calls to ask me if her husband’s RXs can be picked up ~4am because they have to leave town. I told her they were already filled and could be picked up any time. A half hour later the husband cones through the drive-through and tells me that they’ve got to fly out to San Diego because his mom just died. We had a fairly lengthy conversation and by the time he left he was bawling like a baby. I felt really bad for him.

Ok so the night wasn’t THAT bad but usually stuff like this doesn’t happen overnight. Hope your day isn’t quite as depressing!
